  11. I have a Microcom DeskPorte 28.8P modem that I am using with Windows
  12. 95.  Every other time I try to access the modem, it gives me the error
  13. message that the "...modem is in use by another application or a
  14. Dial-Up Networking connection".  I can immediately try again and it
  15. always works.  If the number is busy, and I try to redial, I get the
  16. same message.  I immediately try again, and the modem initializes and
  17. dials.  The strange thing is that it happens every other time.  Not
  18. every third time -- not every time -- but every other time.

  20. I am using a Petium 100MHz computer w/ 32MB RAM.  The only thing that
  21. might be considered unusual about the computer is that I have 3
  22. parallel ports, and the modem is plugged into LPT3:.  I have checked
  23. for all of the usual things such as  memory address or IRQ conflicts,
  24. but can find nothing that I can imagine would cause such a thing to
  25. happen.
